Electronic Instruments

Electronic Instruments

I am not a professional musician but I love to play electronic instruments. Why? Well I love the flexibility of the sounds that I can create with electronic instruments and the interaction that I can create with those different sounds to create different moods and take people on a journey.

One of the things that I do with the electronic instruments that I own is create meditation music and meditation sounds. I create these pieces with my electronic instruments and add them to visuals to create a relaxing experience for people that watch and listen to them. I post them online on the different video platforms and have received some pretty wonderful feedback from folks that find them very helpful to relax and forget about their busy and stressful lives.

One woman told me: “ I love the sound of the electronic instruments on your meditation video. The electronic instrument produce wonderful tones and the combination of all of the sounds from the electrical instruments combined send me almost into a peaceful trance where I travel to a different world with magic, unicorns and fairies. Thank you for your wonderful electronic instruments and the beautiful music that you play with them.”

I was very moved by her feedback and inspired to write more music with my electronic instruments. I was limited by the electronic instruments that I owned so I researched on the internet what type of electronic instruments were available. This is what I found:

Types of electronic instruments

1. Microphones – While microphones are not strictly electronic instruments they are pivotal in creating any piece of music especially when you are like me adding vocals and guitars to the mix. These sounds need to be crisp and clear and a bad microphone is just a waste of time. Spend time talking to people and testing different microphones and be very clear about what you need it for before purchasing to ensure that you buy the right microphone for your needs.

2. Drum machines – Drum machines are fantastic electronic instruments for the music that I am producing. You can set up simple or complex beats that repeat through the music that create a tribal or earthy sound that helps people to relax and meditate;

3. Portable keyboards – I had a couple of portable keyboards already at home but what I found through my research was that they were very out of date and that the capability of keyboards as electronic instruments was far superior to when I had first purchased mine so I seriously looked at the new models for a replacement;

4. Acoustic tone generators – again more than an electronic instrument this is for the after effects hat you want to add to your music. They enhance what you already have and are a great addition and easily affordable even if you are on a budget. In fact I y=told myself that an effects rack was essential if I was planning to extend my work to widen the possibilities that I had of the effects available on my computer;

5. Sustain pedal – I have always been a fan of the sustain peddle in music. I love the way that they elongate sound to create wonderful effects and add a whole new dimension to any music that is produced;

6. Electronic wind controller – Before I started researching I had no idea that these types of electronic instruments existed I thought that anything but a keyboard produced wind instrument sound was well beyond my capabilities and then I found the wind controller. All you do is plug it into your pc and you can create authentic saxophone, clarinet, oboe, flute and brass instrument sounds that are far superior than the midi sounds that I had been used to and what was also pretty cool about this was that it was also dishwasher safe. When you wanted to clean the mouthpiece you could just pop it into the dishwasher for a quick rinse and sterilization;

7. Digital recorder – a digital recorder is a handy electronic instrument to own. I love to record the real sounds of nature in the woods near my home and I have a high quality hand held digital recorder that does the job beautifully for me;

8. International electronic instruments – International electronic instruments were another surprise for me I hadn’t contemplated an electronic Tabla or Tanpura or Sitar. All of these instruments produce beautiful unique sounds and I found myself planning how I could produce

9. Voice virtual analogue synthesizers – These electronic instruments are cross between the analogue machines that I have and the new age digital beasts that are now available on the market that produce every kind of sound available. They are a step away fro the analogue machines and produce sound with a sharp edge that is just not possible on the analogue originals.

After my research into electronic instruments I updated my equipment and armed with a whole suite of awesome electronic instruments I set out to create a whole new level of meditation videos and music that would move people to feel and act. I wanted them to feel something when they watched and listened to my work and I wanted to inspire them to leave the world if only for a short while to leave their cares behind and to travel to the world of their dreams.
